To activate finals for your competition, you need to complete five tasks:
1. Have a finals template set up
2. Create draft draw or regenerate draw to include finals games in fixture grid
3. Ensure all matches for your competition have been ended/finalised
4. Confirm ladder points are correct and final
5. Press the Activate Finals button to generate finals matches
These five tasks are shown below:
Task 1. Have a finals template set up
1 |
You can set up your finals template for your competition in the Competition Module. Navigate to Competition Module > Select your Competition > Competition Details tab > Competition Format section. |
2 |
Down the bottom of this page, you need to select Apply Final Format. |
3 | Note: if you have applied a different match format to different divisions (the apply match format to all divisions button pictured below is not selected and you have entered specific divisions) you will need to tick the Apply Final Format to the different format cards on this screen for the divisions you want to activate finals for. |
4 |
Once you have selected the Apply Finals Format box(es), you can press Next down the bottom right to continue to the Finals page, or alternatively select Finals from the drop down list pictured in step number 1 above. Tip: Pressing Next will also save your changes from this page so you do not need to hit the save button if you are continuing on to the Finals section. |
5 |
Complete your finals setting on this page, including - Finals start date and time - Fixture template, match type and match minute settings - Extra time settings |
Task 2. Create draft draw or regenerate draw to include finals games in fixture grid
1 | To create a draft draw with finals games, firstly navigate to the Competition module > Select Competition > Competition Details tab > Draws section. |
2 |
On the draws page, if you see a grid appear that means you have created a draw already. If this is the case, click on the Round 1 drop down list towards the top of the screen. If you scroll to the bottom of this list and you only see different Rounds in the drop down list (and not any finals rounds such as Finals Round 1 in the drop down list, then you need to regenerate a draw). Progress to step 3 if this is the case. If you do not see a grid, that means you have not generated one yet and you can also progress to step 3. If you see Finals Rounds in the drop down list that means you have already generated finals rounds into your grid and you have confirmed that your finals settings are correct, you are finished with this task. |
3 |
Follow the instructions in task one above in this article titled 'Have a finals template set up' to set up your finals. Once you have done this press the Create Draft Draw button. Note: If you have already published a draw this button can be used to regenerate your draw. |
4 |
When prompted to create/regenerate a draw, if you have already generated a draw, in the By Round box, scroll to the lowest possible round and select that round. Selecting the last round will include your finals in the grid generation. In this example the lowest round in the list was Round 5. |
5 |
If you are creating a draw for the first time, select regenerate by Entire Draw if you want to include finals. For the remainder of this form, select Use Team Rankings, choose whether to override and delete past matches (most common answer is No) and leave Auto as the response for compact matches. Press Ok to continue. |
6 |
Once you have generated your draw, you can check if the finals rounds have been added by now viewing the drop down button from before. You can see below that the 2 finals round are now selectable options. Once you are happy you can publish your finals rounds to Match Day. Important: You will note that the teams for the finals games will appear as their seeding numbers (seen below in the grid as 1v4, 2v3 etc.). They will appear as numbers in both the Competition Module and Match Day Module. When you finish task 5 in this article by Activating Your Finals, the system will then push the teams into those seeding numbers based off the ladder points and you will see who is playing who. That is why before continuing to task 5, you should follow tasks 3 & 4 to ensure your games are completed and ladder points are all correct. |
Task 3. Ensure all matches for your competition have been ended/finalised
1 |
Navigate to matches list in the Match Day Module > Select your Competition > Competition Details tab > Matches |
2 |
When you see your full list of matches in the report, you want to ensure each game has a green dot in the Score column. A green dot means the game has been ended and the score finalised. A grey dot means the game has been ended but the score is yet to be finalised. No dot means the game has not been ended. To edit a game to have a green dot, simply press on the Match Id of the game you want to update (far left column below). |
3 | When you are on the game details screen, you need to press the Edit button (up the top right hand corner of the screen). |
4 | To make changes, you need to scroll down the bottom of the screen to where you can see Result Status. Make sure you choose Final in that box, and then hit the End Match button just below. |
5 | Once all games in your matches list have a green dot that means you have finalised them all and ended all matches |
Task 4. Confirm ladder points are correct and final
1 | To check ladder points are correct, navigate to Match Day Module > Select Competition > Competition Details tab > Ladder |
2 | You can switch between divisions by using the drop down box up the top of the screen. Continue to do this until you are happy with all ladder points for divisions you will be activating finals for. |
3 |

Task 5. Press the Activate Finals button to general finals matches
1 | Once you have completed tasks 1-4, you can now activate finals. Navigate to the Match Day Module > Select your Competition > Competition Details > Matches |
2 | You will notice that the finals games as mentioned previously appear as numbers as finals have not been activated yet. |
3 | When you are ready to activate finals, navigate to the Actions button up the top-right hand corner of the screen, and press Activate Finals |
4 | When prompted, select whether you want to activate finals for all divisions or just a select number |
5 |
When activated successfully, you will now see the teams populated into the finals lists. Note: If you are receiving an error message, please read the error and make a fix above. The error could be something with your chosen format, or one of the previous tasks not being completed correctly. If you are still having issues please send through details of the error and a screenshot to support@basketballconnect.zendesk.com and someone in our Support Team can assist. |
